USTA News

Is it really already time for the annual USTA meeting? But it’s still snowing. And freezing. And snowing. And freezing. So scrape your windshield and drive to CMU next Thursday, February 11 for water, pop, and snacks with our USTA Western Slope League Coordinator Extraordinaire, Kathy Elliott and our Denver USTA League Director, Jason Rogers. Captains can get team numbers, a USTA handbook, and ask questions about why their rating changed.  😉

Below is an email sent to the tennis community from Kathy Elliott, Western Slope Area Coordinator, Colorado Tennis Association. Email questions to ctawesternslope@gmail.com.

Hello all, some updates regarding upcoming tennis. USTA tennis meeting will be held next Thursday Feb. 11 at 5 pm at the tennis office at CMU. Office is located between courts 2 & 3.  I will have snacks and water and pop for you.  Please plan to attend.  I will hand out team numbers for 18 & up, 18 & up mixed, & 55 & up. Jason Rogers will be there to talk about anything you might want to talk about;)

There will be an increase of $1.50 for court fees this upcoming USTA season.  The cost has always been $10 for a league and that will increase to $11.50 for each league you play in this coming season.  It is very likely that this could increase a bit more in the years ahead.

I have reached out to the other league directors for court costs in their areas and we are by far the most fortunate area when it comes to keeping the cost to play….low.  In Colorado Springs area the cost to play home matches on public courts is 6 dollars per person for each home match.  In Fort Collins at CSU courts, the cost is 4 dollars per person for one hour of play, per home matches.  These were the two lowest prices I received from other coordinators.  In the private clubs the costs can range from 15 dollars to 45 dollars per home match for each player.

Our court fees are used to buy new nets, net straps, wind screens, roll dri’s and half of the money brought in goes to GJ Parks and Rec and CMU.  Although they do not charge us anything, we have always given them money at the end of each summer of tennis.

We have such a great relationship with CMU and GJ parks & rec and we will continue to work really hard to keep that relationship very strong.

Just a reminder that GJTC membership drive is going on right now and league registration forms are due on Friday Feb 12.  Even though it does not look as though the snow will ever leave, I believe it will.  Please get your forms turned in as soon as you can.  If you need me to send you another form just write me back and I will get that out to you. –Or visit the Grand Junction Tennis Club Leagues page and download the form–

In the past our GJTC has had as many as 165 members.  This past three years we have had approximately 90 folks join our club.  Our membership funds have always been directed back into our community helping juniors play in tennis league and drills.  Our dollars also help with the cost of tennis equipment for our tennis facilities.  Our dollars also help to pull off the Taco Bell Western Slope tourney.  I hope you will consider joining our club and playing in our Spring league.

Thanks for reading and hope to see you at the USTA meeting next Thursday 🙂
